This year I will celebrate having lived in Ashford for 22 years, still the new boy, but I chose to migrate directly to Ashford because why would you live elsewhere? So, for eight years now it has been my great honour and privilege to serve the people of Ashford and in particular the villages of Downs West ward on Ashford Borough Council.
While serving on the borough council I have had many roles, currently serving as the deputy mayor, I have had the pleasure of going to many functions and events to open or just be a presence for Ashford in various locations. A reminder that the borough is made up of many parts all of which contribute to the thriving community that is Ashford, town and rural.
My past term has seen the rollout of faster broadband provision to more parts of the borough, and long may this continue. In conjunction with county council colleagues this is just one priority along with ensuring lorry parking never again blights the borough, especially in rural areas. Westminster legislation banned parking along major A-roads in the borough and may it continue to seek a better solution for all drivers traversing our borough.
Like many Ashfordians, my wife Reverend Sue and I also face tough times and so we know just how hard life can be for many. Although nobody should confuse Ashford Borough Council with other authorities, we believe local issues require local action that would be best handled by Local Conservatives.
